Defining XR

What Is Extended Reality?

Besides the newest two-letter acronym the hit the experiential marketing scene, what is XR, or extended reality?

XR, or extended reality, is part of an evolving alphabet soup of two-letter acronyms, such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR). While we find that many people have trouble defining the difference between technologies like AR and VR, extended reality is a simpler subset.

Extended reality is really just immersive video. A theater-like media viewing experience delivered via 360-degree or 180-degree video.

Today, brands and content creators are experimenting with this format across a spectrum of short ad-like experiences, mid-length training and education materials, and full-length feature films.
