Take It Outside
7 Event Spaces That Embrace the Outdoors
Summer is here! Put away those sweaters and bring out the drink floaties, because it’s time to dip your toes in the pool of outdoor event venues. Ahhh… refreshing.
With clear blue skies and warm weather on the horizon, we understand now more than ever how beneficial it is to escape the traditional office environment- but it’s not just us who thinks so.
More and more companies are following the trend and sending their employees and attendees into the great outdoors to seek the serene in addition to the festive.
We can all agree that there’s a certain something about being outside that manages to evoke a physical response and engage our senses. Whether we enjoy vast landscapes and dramatic colors from a mountaintop or rooftop, outdoor settings have the power to refresh our bodies and our minds.
However, if the promise of sunsets and ice-cream trucks are not enough to convince you, taking a quick look at the data might.
The Psychological Science Journal, among others, reports that spending more time outside:
- Improves short-term memory, vision, and concentration
- Restores mental energy
- Relieves stress
- Reduces inflammation
- Leads to sharper thinking and higher levels of creativity
- Makes us more comfortable with new experiences
- Boosts the immune system
- Improves mental health
- May increase lifespan and stimulate cancer-fighting proteins
With outdoor festivals, art fairs, and pop ups on the rise, it’s no wonder that business events are starting to break out of the traditional ballroom settings and embrace a new perspective- some using wide open natural vistas as their venues, and others taking inspiration from nature and bringing outdoor adventure right to their attendees on the show floor.
One Florida hotel brought the beach into their ballroom creating a full-sized volleyball court — complete with sand.
We’re often looking to push the boundaries for conferences and meeting experiences, and we’ve discovered the following stunning outdoor venues to consider for your next event.
Now if you’ll excuse us, Cramer has left the building.
1) On Broadway KC, Kansas City
On this rooftop event space, views of downtown Kansas City, Missouri are in every direction. For catering needs, an Airstream trailer houses a fully equipped kitchen, and its modern lounge furniture can be configured to accommodate 275 guests.
2) Sycamore Farms, Nashville area
Nashville’s a hot city for mid-sized events, and Sycamore Farms has 28 acres of Southern country views just 30 minutes from downtown Nashville. The barn is set with state-of-the-art tech and can open up for an outdoor feel or stay closed when the weather doesn’t cooperate. There’s a lake and island for a waterfront experience and paved parking for 400.
The Red Rocks Amphitheater is naturally formed, acoustically perfect, and built right into the towering red sandstone rocks. As a park and entertainment venue unlike any other, it inspires community yoga groups, musicians and artists alike to congregate and enjoy the beautiful panoramic view overlooking Denver while they get things done.
4) The Boileryard at Camp North End, Charlotte, NC
One of these historic factories used to produce Model T Fords, but this preservation project offers a massive blank canvas in its Boileryard. The outdoor space surrounded by creative artist, office, and production spaces is a popular choice for local and corporate events.
Located in Deep Ellum, Dallas’ arts district, the rooftop at 2616 Commerce shows gorgeous nighttime views of the colorful Dallas skyline. This roof deck is six blocks from the convention center and near many of the city’s best restaurants.
Located in Napa Valley, this roomy 13-century style castle will add a bit of historic flavor to your next wine tasting. Or your next conference meeting. Surrounded by beautiful views overlooking the courtyards, vineyards and scenic mountain landscape, your employees or attendees will feel like they’re in the heart of Tuscany.
Copy a winning recipe. Each year, the crème de la crème of foodie festivals, the Food & Wine Classic, sets its tent posts in Aspen, Colorado’s Wagner Park. With stunning summer slopes for its backdrop, and the charm of Aspen, this location is a crowd pleaser.
